Does Mike still suck?. I don't know. You Red Sox fan tell me.

I just took back ownership of this blog (sorry David, you didn't do anything) but I'm not aware of how Mike is doing it now. I'm so pissed off with the Marlins that I decided to skip Baseball for this season.

I'm no longer interested in keeping this blog or the domain mikelowellsucks.com, thus the offer to give them away is still open.

However, conditions for transferring ownership still remain the same:

1. You have to prove everyone you're the right person for this job. I'll grant you access to do some guest posting and depending of it, me and/or your fellow Bostonians will decide if you qualify.

2. You must promise me, and more important, promise the Red Sox Nation you'll continue the work of this blog and you'll spread your hate against this sucker.

3. Finally and in case Mike Lowell gets traded to another team, you will do the same as I did and will transfer everything to one of the fans of the next unlucky team.

Mike Lowell Proving Just How Terrible He Is

Mike Lowell has been proving to all of Red Sox Nation just how terrible a player he is and how he is not worth what they are paying him. In 43 AB this spring he is hitting 256 which is lower than all but 5 players with that many AB 3 of which won't even make the spring roster. He has hit 1 homer and Adam Stern, the Rookie Right Fielder has hit 3 and he played in the Classic! On the field, he hasn't gotten the chance to prove himself as he has appeared at 3B only 15 times but Billy Mueller could both field and hit at the same time. Sox fans will never forget the night that he hit 2 grandslams one from each side of the plate. He is the ONLY player in MLB history to do that. Lowell...well he pulled the hidden ball trick on someone last year which is a bush league play and doesn't make him look very good in the eyes of the opposing teams. Both the Red Sox website and the Boston Globe have covered his spring problems and I will be writing an article featuring some of those quotes as soon as I track them down. I am wondering why we of got this Marlins holdout who was only on the market because the Fish were having a firesale and getting rid of everyone that they didn't want including two other now Red Sox, Josh Beckett and Alex Gonzalez one of whom isn't healthy all the time so he could be on the DL sooner rathere than later and the other one hits worse than Lowell does. Lowell was included in the deal because the Sox wanted something else for Hanley Ramriez but because he was just a prospect, the Fish offered Lowell. Next Boston's Public Enemy No. 1

Welcome Boston.com's readers to my humble blog, it's a big honor to have been featured by Eric Wilbur in his article.

Anyhow, Eric's expectant Mike Lowell would rebound, given he couldn't fall any lower... Well, let me put this clear in a way everybody understands it: He won't, because HE SUCKS!

Ok, it was right Red Sox signed him, because it was the only way they could get the amazing Josh Beckett. But don't waste your hopes expecting Lowell might be any better, because as Eric states, Mikey's fate is to become the next public enemy No. 1 in Red Sox Nation.

It finally happened, Marlins got rid off Mike Lowell..!!!

It finally occurred, Marlins got rid off this (ex-steroid addict?) sucker, and Red Sox traded him for three prospects.

Well, it doesn't matter what we Marlins fans got in exchange for Mikey, to say three prospects, three sand bags or three packs of bubble gum. Anything they give us is worth more than him.

I'm not a follower of Red Sox's finances, but I guess they have a lot of spare cash that allows them such spending blunder.

Mike Lowell comes over as a $9 million liability for the 2006 and 2007 seasons (he is guaranteed $18 million). Lowell's production significantly dropped last year, when he hit .236 with 8 home runs and 58 RBIs. The previous 3 seasons he averaged just fewer than 28 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .282 average. Interesting how the three-time All-Star's numbers dropped dramatically after Major League Baseball's original steroid policy came into play. Bostonist can only hope that the right handed hitter can utilize the Green Monster in left to bring him back to the prominence of the 2002-2004 seasons. Time will tell.

Anyhow it's not only all bad news for them, they also got one of the best pitchers in the game, for a really bargain price.

The 25-year-old Beckett, eligible for salary arbitration, is expected to earn between $4 million and $5 million next year and can become a free agent after the 2007 season.

Twins Interested In Lowell?

It unbelievable there may be any team really interested in this sucker, without being imposed to a buy-one-good-f@ck-yourself-with-the-other kind of trade, like others teams are.

Word within baseball circles is that the Twins are trying to trade with the Florida Marlins for third baseman Mike Lowell.

The Twins, though, want the Marlins to pick up a good part of the $16 million that Lowell, 31, is guaranteed for the next two years. The Twins are expected to offer pitching (Kyle Lohse, J.C. Romero and/or Scott Baker) and could make a deal by the second week in December.

Season's Over

The season is over for the Marlins.

We woke up from the dream of what it could has been but it wasn't. And that's why the Marlins' management is going to shake the tree and a lot of people will fall down.

Incompetence

There is a saying in Spanish: "Tanto nadar, para morir en la orilla", which translates somewhat like "All that swimming, to end dying in the shore".

I feel deceived by the Marlins, not only Mike Lowell, he deceived me since the beginning of the season, but the whole team. How it's possible to end being such a bunch of incompetent losers.

"So that leaves us here today, this teal box full of hopes and dreams crushed by incompetence. From the manager to the would-be closer to the would-be traded, soon to be free agent starter to the center fielder, there is plenty of blame to go around. This is not a zombie movie, no return from the dead for revenge. As this box is lowered into the ground that is the 2005 MLB season, the Marlins tombstone will read as follows:

“Here lies incompetence.”"

F**k you Marlins, how you dare to fill us up with hope, and shatter it at the end.

Lame Excuses

Have you ever heard an excuse so lame and stupid.

Lowell conceded that he has had some trouble seeing the ball this year.

He tried wearing a contact lens on his left eye last month.

'I was really seeing the ball and hitting the ball well then the contact broke,' he said, 'and (after) the next one I put in, which was the same prescription, I started seeing fuzzy on defense, so I took it out.'

Mike, it's not a problem with your vision, because you do make contact with the ball. The problem is with your effectiveness, because every time you hit the ball it becomes an out. And that's what is unacceptable.

Inconsistency is not allowed

Chris Hoyler from RealGMBaseball has hit the point, which might be the source of all Marlins' problems: inconsistency.

While the FSN TV guys can gush about how Mike Lowell has bounced back from his embarrassingly bad first half, I for one am still extremely upset with the inconsistency of his performance. He left three men on base in Game One, including Miguel Cabrera and Luis Castillo with two outs in the tenth. When teams are willing to intentionally walk Miggy to get to Lowell, there is a problem with the batting order.

It's not acceptable what it has become usual with the Marlins, but this not only due to Lowell; that particular situation, where bases were left loaded, has occured too many times and has become a real issue. The last time was on last saturday's game against the Dodgers, where Miguel grounded for the last out of the game, with bases loaded.

Take me out to the ball game

Today I'm going to the ball park for the game Marlins vs Dodgers.

Currently the Marlins are in the second place in the race for the wild card and I think they are very likely to make it, as long as they keep winning games.

Tonight's pitcher will be Brian Moehler, RHP (6-9, 3.58) who, despite isn't one of my favorites, would win the game if he's supported by the offensive. I only hope Mike Lowell doesn't suck that much today and doesn't make me waste my money.

UPDATED:
The Marlins lost this game, but this time it wasn't all Mike's fault.
As so many times it has happened before, the one to blame is Marlins' bullpen. They gave away 11 runs, with no chance to revert the situation.
In the last opportunity, there were bases loaded and the last player at bat was Miguel Cabrera, and as it seems to be becoming usual, he missed it. Final wrap, Marlins lost 11 to 6.

Miracle

How do you name it when Mike bats a fly out, especially with bases loaded.... the usual.

And, how do you name it when he bats a hit... a miracle.

Mike, I still think you suck, just have been goddamn lucky after the break.

...ah, and your "hidden ball" trick isn't still enough to convince us.

It's maybe the oldest play in baseball, and maybe the most embarrassing. But the hidden-ball play did the trick for the Marlins on Wednesday night.

Third baseman Mike Lowell and Todd Jones were the tricksters and Arizona's Luis Terrero the victim as Lowell caught Terrero wandering off third base for a key out in the eighth inning and the Marlins went on to beat the Diamondbacks 10-5 Wednesday night at Dolphins Stadium.

I think rumors are rumors, because, going back to the minor leagues, I think I've been named in potentially 50 trades,' Lowell said. 'Until someone in this organization tells me I'm traded, I'm not going to pay any attention to it.

Orioles may get Lowell

Lowell as part of Burnett's trade might be the only way any team would have him, as a buy-one-good-player-get-an-extra-mediocre-player package deal.

The Orioles remain in the running to acquire pitcher A.J. Burnett from the Florida Marlins, according to an industry source, with the package expanding to possibly include third baseman Mike Lowell.

Orioles, stop hesitating and take him with you once and for all.

Poor Mike, he's so sad Marlins fans are angry with him... how dare they.

"In South Florida, struggling third baseman Mike Lowell has not been happy at all the talk on message boards and sports radio about his sudden lack of pop. Such speculation surfaces when a man who averaged 27.6 homers during the last three years has only three in 2005.

'I don't find it amusing at all,' Lowell told the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. 'I think it's actually somewhat disrespectful. I've heard talk radio before, and a lot of intelligent things I hear are from the fans, but there are a lot of things that are stupid."

Disrespectful my ass Mikey, here the only stupid is you. Stop being such an asshole and start doing what you are being paid a gruesome lot of money for, to be a real baseball player who can produce results.

Marlins to kick out Lowel

Finally Marlins management are thinking with their heads.

"According to several sources, the Orioles have had conversations with the Florida Marlins about acquiring pitcher A.J. Burnett. The sources say Baltimore also expressed interest in third baseman Mike Lowell, who likely would be moved to first base if acquired by the Orioles. A deal for Burnett could include Lowell, who is making $7.5 million this season and is signed through next year. The cost-cutting Marlins might try to unload his salary"

I feel sorry for the Orioles.... ha ha, I'm BSing... the hell with the Orioles.

He still sucks, just have been lucky

It would have been the perfect excuse for getting rid off Mike, putting him in the DL.

There was a scary moment in the fourth inning when Lowell jammed his left foot sliding into third base. Lowell limped off the field and stayed in the game until Damion Easley replaced him at third base in the eighth inning.

He's just been a lucky bastard, and soon will return to his perennial slump any time soon.

Lowell has clearly come out of his seasonlong malaise, hitting safely in 10 of his last 11 games, going 13 for 37 (.351) with seven RBI, three runs and five walks.

Lowell batted a grand slam against the Rangers of Texas, helping the Marlins in winning this game and raise, at least until next game, the morale of the entire team. Anyway, I still think it was simply a lucky strike for Mikey, who went 1-5 in that game. An yes Mike, it's easy for the other teams to beat us at any time if you guys don't make any effort in fighting against that.

'It just seems like everything is not clicking for us, and it's very hard for us to score runs,' Lowell said. 'It just seems like it's easy for the other team, and it's really difficult for us to put runs on the board.'

When McKeon became manager in May 2003, he introduced a motto of 'winning is fun, and fun is winning.'

On the subject of having fun, Lowell said: 'I think winning definitely brings the fun back to the game, because I don't know too many people who have fun losing. Everyone says it's a game. But when you're not doing well and you're losing, it's still a game, but you're not having fun. I kind of get a kick out of people who say, 'You should have fun.' I think if we start winning, we'll start having fun.'

Over their dry spell, the Marlins have dealt with criticism from the media. Lowell said much of it is justified.

'I think it's been two weeks now where we've been playing terrible baseball,' he said. 'I don't think it's the end of the season. But I don't think it should be short-played. If we play like this for two more weeks, we might ruin our season. You don't want to dig yourself into a huge hole. We're already past the lucky part, where we went 2-8 and lost a game in the standings. Well, someone is bound to get hot in our division.'

Well Mike, just for today we're going to give you a confidence vote and we'll recognize you did not completely suck. But better try to keep that pace or we are going to change back our minds.

What we need is other Pudge

The fault is not McKeon's only. Blame also the Team Managers.

"All of the Marlins agree that the team is underachieving because top players are not performing to their potential. But some players also fault manager Jack McKeon, saying that he sets a negative tone.

'There's obviously something wrong,' said a player, one of five who spoke on condition of anonymity. 'We don't have the same chemistry we had two years ago.''

What the team needs is a player with a proved leadership, capable of setting the strategies to be followed by the other players during the game, and yet most important, a leader who is respected by his teammates. Damn, how much we miss Ivan Rodriguez.

Anyway, a big part of the team's problem is definitely Mike Lowell, who's only two home runs in this season and a shameful average. Gosh, for $7.5MM you may have expected a lot more better than that.

Not everyone in the clubhouse is upset with McKeon's style. They point out that the Marlins went through a recent 2-11 skid in part because players who excelled in 2003 are playing poorly. Juan Pierre entered Thursday's game batting .256, more than 50 points below his career average. Mike Lowell has just two home runs. Through Wednesday, the team was second in the National League in batting average but 12th in runs scored.

On Sunday, McKeon brought in Damion Easley to pinch-run for Lowell. Easley scored in the eighth inning and then stayed in the game at third base, his weakest infield position. Easley made a costly error on a hard grounder before Washington's Ryan Church hit a game-winning homer.

Although Easley doesn't seem to play comfortably covering the third base, I think his batting power can overcome that little weakness and make him way more productive than Lowell.

Third base soon to be available

McKeon should definitively give the third base position to Damion Easley, who has proved to be a lot better than Mike, and a lot cheaper too, one tenth of Mikey's salary to be exact.

Mike Lowell, three times an all-star and the Marlins' all-time home-run leader, has been pushed down to sixth in the Florida lineup. That's fairly serious, too, but it could get worse. Five times already this season McKeon has started somebody else at third base and, unless Lowell snaps out of a season-long slump, that could become more of a habit in the coming weeks.
