It finally happened, Marlins got rid off Mike Lowell..!!!
It finally occurred, Marlins got rid off this (ex-steroid addict?) sucker, and Red Sox traded him for three prospects.
Well, it doesn't matter what we Marlins fans got in exchange for Mikey, to say three prospects, three sand bags or three packs of bubble gum. Anything they give us is worth more than him.
I'm not a follower of Red Sox's finances, but I guess they have a lot of spare cash that allows them such spending blunder.
Mike Lowell comes over as a $9 million liability for the 2006 and 2007 seasons (he is guaranteed $18 million). Lowell's production significantly dropped last year, when he hit .236 with 8 home runs and 58 RBIs. The previous 3 seasons he averaged just fewer than 28 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .282 average. Interesting how the three-time All-Star's numbers dropped dramatically after Major League Baseball's original steroid policy came into play. Bostonist can only hope that the right handed hitter can utilize the Green Monster in left to bring him back to the prominence of the 2002-2004 seasons. Time will tell.Anyhow it's not only all bad news for them, they also got one of the best pitchers in the game, for a really bargain price.
The 25-year-old Beckett, eligible for salary arbitration, is expected to earn between $4 million and $5 million next year and can become a free agent after the 2007 season.Good luck Bostonians, you'll need it.

I bet Lowell plays a serviceable 3B for us. I wonder what went wrong with the guy in FLA... maybe he went nuts (see Foulke, Keith), maybe he's an ex-roid-er (see Sosa, Sammy). Either way, I'll take him as I'm excited to have Josh Beckett. We may not win the WS with him, but I'm fairly positive we wouldn't have without him.
I wish you guys the best luck with Josh Beckett, he's one of the best pitchers in the game... but Lowell is another story. He's simply a disappointment.
Just let me know when somebody (maybe you) starts writing a hate blog against him :-)
